Big News! Results Out for First Ever Computer-Based Exams in West Africa

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) just released the results for the very first computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates!

This is a major change from the traditional paper-and-pencil exams. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Pass Rates Show Improvement

Over 30% of students who took the exam passed with good grades in both English and Math. This is a positive sign, especially considering it’s the first time the exam has been offered in this format.

There’s also good news compared to previous paper-based exams. Pass rates for English and Math specifically have shown a slight increase of nearly 7%.

Exam Details and Availability

The computer-based exams were held in January and February 2024 at specially equipped testing centers across West Africa. A total of 8,139 students participated, showing good initial interest in this new format.

Not All Results Released Yet

It’s important to note that WAEC is holding onto the results of a small number of students (about 0.8%).

This is because potential cheating is being investigated.

What This Means for Students

This is a big step towards modernizing the WASSCE for private candidates.

Computer-based exams can offer several advantages, such as potentially reducing cheating and allowing for quicker grading and results.

Looking Ahead

The positive initial results and increased pass rates are encouraging signs for the future of computer-based WASSCE exams.

We’ll likely see more details and information from WAEC in the coming months about how this new format will be implemented more widely.

Stay Informed

Students who took the exam can expect to receive their individual results soon.

We recommend checking the WAEC website or social media for updates on the official release process.
