Calling all passionate photographers! Applications are now open for the Revolutionary Storyteller Grant 2024, offered by Photographers Without Borders (PWB).
This grant program empowers photographers with a deep connection to communities working on innovative solutions for environmental protection.
Revolutionary Storyteller Grant of $5,000
Shine a Light on Changemakers:
PWB is seeking powerful visual narratives that showcase communities around the world safeguarding our planet in groundbreaking ways.
Whether it’s protecting land and water resources, reviving traditional ecological knowledge, or tackling climate change, the grant aims to amplify the voices of these frontline movements.
Stories of Hope and Action:
The grant welcomes proposals exploring diverse themes, including:
- Land and water protection: From safeguarding sacred sites to advocating for sustainable water management.
- Indigenous science and wisdom: Highlighting the invaluable knowledge and practices of indigenous communities in protecting the environment.
- Climate change solutions: Documenting innovative initiatives addressing the climate crisis and its impact on communities.
- Regeneration and restoration: Showcasing efforts to restore ecosystems and rebuild our relationship with nature.
- Intersectionality in environmental issues: Exploring the interconnectedness of environmental challenges with social justice and other critical issues.
Grant Benefits:
Selected photographers will receive a generous grant of $5,000 USD to support their project implementation.
Additionally, they will benefit from:
- Community exhibition: Sharing their work with the communities they document.
- Training and mentorship: Gaining valuable skills through workshops and personalized guidance.
- Exposure and recognition: Featuring their work across PWB’s platforms, including the print magazine.
Eligibility:
The grant is open to photographers from anywhere in the world.
However, priority will be given to those who are deeply embedded within the communities they portray and demonstrate a long-standing relationship with them.
PWB reserves three of the five grants for PWB members, while two are open to non-members.
Important Requirements:
- Grant recipients must submit a detailed budget and corresponding receipts.
- They are required to deliver raw and edited images, along with a written story of 500-2500 words, to PWB within 30 days of project completion.
- Creating video content is encouraged, with PWB offering support in sourcing a videographer if needed.
- Collaboration with the community and PWB is crucial for developing a social media campaign to maximize the project’s impact.
- Grant recipients are expected to participate in PWB events and organize a community exhibition.
- While photographers retain copyright of their work, they grant PWB a royalty-free license to promote the project and the photographer.
